Here's an excerpt from my section in this new anthology from Soft Skull Press about the oppressive world of RETAIL!

There's a homeless woman who figured out how to use our PA system, and one day we heard her for a glorious one and a half minutes all over the store at TOP VOLUME, "AAAY! YOU THINK YOU'RE SPECIAL!?" Every single person in the store looked to the ceiling as this HUGE voice shot from the speakers, "YOU'RE NOT SO SPECIAL! AAAY! MOTHERFUCKER! FUCKER! FUCKER! AAAY! YOU THINK YOU KNOW IT ALL!? FUCKER! YOU KNOW NOTHING! FUCKER! YEAH! AAAY! FUCKER! HEY GIVE ME THAT! LEAVE ME ALONE! THAT'S MINE--" The music comes back on, everyone laughs. They laugh, but I know she knows what she’s saying, yes oh yes. The security guards have her by either arm on the escalator and she is smiling. Then I hear her laughing. She's laughing and I can hear her laughter even after she's out of sight. I like her most of all. Her name is Angela, and she's a Pisces. And I want to start a bloodless revolution with her.

CAConrad's childhood included selling cut flowers along the highway for his mother and helping her shoplift. He escaped to Philadelphia the first chance he got where he lives and writes today with The PhillySound poets. Soft Skull Press published his book Deviant Propulsion in 2006. Jack Kimball's FAUX Press recently published his poems (Soma)tic Midge (samples from this can be seen in listenlight and MiPOesias and Sawbuck and COCONUT#9). The Book of Frank is now available from CHAX Press. A selection of The Book of Frank was also translated into German by Berlin poet Holger, and a bilingual chapbook is now available from Carrie Hunter's YPOLITA Press. His book advanced ELVIS course will be coming out in summer of 2009. A collaboration with poet Frank Sherlock titled The City Real & Imagined: Philadelphia Poems, will be coming out in fall of 2009 from Factory School Press.
